Greetings, Bendwood Families,
This year’s Back to School (x2) has surely stretched our parent community in ways it has never expected to be stretched. From the lead up to Harvey, the impact, and now the aftermath and recovery, our community is showing true spirit and resilience throughout this time. Now that SPIRAL classes have started this past Monday, I hope that is one more piece of the puzzle that is clicking into place for you and your children.
A little about me – I have a daughter in her second year at Bendwood (4th grade), as well as a son (2nd grade) at Valley Oaks and a son at Memorial Middle School (6th grade). We’ve been in SBISD since my oldest was in Kindergarten at VOE, though we did have a 2.5 year stint in London in the middle of it. It was amazing to come home, and step right back into a welcoming community of classmates, parents and friends. Despite our time in another country, Spring Branch always felt like home.
I am thankful to have the opportunity to serve as the Bendwood PTA President this year, and humbled by the experience and commitment of this year’s Executive Board and PTA committee members. We represent a variety of elementary schools in the district, including Valley Oaks, Wilchester, Frostwood, Rummel Creek, Bunker Hill and Nottingham elementaries, and we welcome any existing and incoming parents who’d like to be a part of our efforts.
SPIRAL classes began this past Monday, Sept 18th, offering an exciting curriculum that spans a range of interesting topics from Ancient Civilizations to Coding and Robotics, among others. Bendwood teacher assignments were sent home with your students at the first back to school week. With your teacher assignment, you received a school supply list specific for SPIRAL classrooms, as well as a parent authorization form to be returned to your child’s Bendwood teacher.
The Bendwood Elementary cafeteria prepares the Early Learning Center Menu (available here).
The Bendwood PTA holds 4 general PTA meetings a year typically in conjunction with a SPIRAL event or function. Our first general PTA meeting will be held in conjunction with Curriculum Night on Oct 10th at 5:45 pm. Parents will have an opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and learn more about what their children will be learning this year at Bendwood. Please note that due to the large population of students, there will be two curriculum nights by last name on Oct 10th and 12th, and the event is for parents only.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, and I’m looking forward to serving the Bendwood community this year.
Connie U. Boyd
